The 44-year-old star of the worldwide hit series Crocodile Hunter was filming near the resort town of Port Douglas for his new documentary Oceans Deadliest when the incident happened. He’ll be very sadly missed.
The Queensland Tourism Industry Council has rejected a British report that suggests closing off most of the Great Barrier Reef to tourism.The report suggest a lottery system where a limited number of people could win visits to the reef each year.
The Great Barrier Reef’s controversial zoning plan, which bans fishing in a third of the reef, will remain in place for at least the next seven years, the federal government has announced.
The zoning plan, introduced last year, increased protection of the reef’s Marine Park and World Heritage Area from 4.6 per cent to 34 per cent, or more than 11 million hectares.
Commercial and recreational fishing is banned in the protected area.
